Wisdom Books Newsletter 22nd May 2009 : Iss 83In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few. - from : Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind |
Welcome to our May newsletter, here in London the sun shines in patches whilst the seeds of revolution continue to grow!
Here is a brief overview of the four titles featured on our home page this month. Padmasambhava Comes to Tibet is a fully illustrated book of homage to Guru Rinpoche, beautifully produced to a very high standard, it includes numerous prayers dedicated to Padmasambhava as well as the Vajra Guru mantra, with details of its benefits and the advantages of using it in our spiritual life. Buddhism of the Heart, a wide ranging and personal introduction to the Pure Land practice of Shin Buddhism, illuminates a tradition that whilst being the most popular form of Buddhism in Japan is still little known in the West. From Namkhai Norbu comes Longchenpa's Advice from the Heart which sets in context thirty words of advice and then proceeds to explain each one as the basis of Longchenpa's spiritual experience. Finally, Tantric Techniques from Jeffrey Hopkins offers a complete system of tantric meditation, comparing the views of three seminal masters - Lama Tsong Khapa, Longchenpa, and Buton Rinpoche on deity yoga, and on issues such as how to safeguard against psychological inflation and how to use negative emotions on the path.
In addition to the books described above here is some information on a couple of the titles from the list of new releases below. Future is Now by the 17th Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje pairs full-page photographs with 108 sayings on how to live more compassionately and consciously – a really great photographic gift book! We now have stock of the four DVD plus 1 CD special box set edition of I Am That containing the teachings of the Indian master Sri Nisargadatta, the book by the way, is one of our bestselling non-Buddhist titles, check it out if you wish – I Am That.
All four of our home page titles have generous excerpts from them available for you to read at leisure, as do many of the other great new titles as listed below.
Be well, and enjoy the newsletter!
