Filming on location in China, Bertolucci and producer Jeremy Thomas were the first western film-makers to be allowed access to hitherto forbidden locations. The director's cut provides nearly an hour of extra footage that adds depth and breadth to Bertolucci's vision. Including full commentaries by Bertolucci, Jeremy Thomas and an in-depth documentary about the making of the film, this is the definitive edition of one of the most stirring epics of all time.
