Synopsis: Describing the stages of the path to enlightenment, the Sakya Lama Gyaltsen gives effective methods for calming and developing the mind in wisdom and compassion.
The Opening of the Lotus is concerned with the development of the stages of enlightenment, the path to peace, in the mind of each individual, making this an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism in general, as well as to the teachings of the Sakya tradition in particular. The book is in four parts. The first explains how to build the correct foundation for practice, concentrating on thought training. The second explains in more detail the method of Parting from the Four Attachments, and training the mind in compassion and wisdom, both relative and ultimate. The third part outlines some basic preliminary practices essential for preparing the mind for meditation. Finally, there is a short history of the Sakya tradition and a personal account of the author's life and spiritual training.
"All people wish to follow a path to peace. Peace comes from the mind." Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Amipa. |
