Synopsis: A new biography of Chogyam Trungpa by one of his most influential students. A cofounder of Naropa University, Hayward helped create the Shambhala Training programme and is a central figure in the development of these Shambhala teachings. This intimate memoir begins in 1970 with the author's first meeting with Chogyam Trungpa. Hayward vividly describes Trungpa's powerful, direct way of working with students, his groundbreaking work in bringing Buddhism to the West, and the teachings Trungpa presented each year. He also describes his own personal spiritual journey with Trungpa as a guide. Trained as a scientist at Cambridge University, Hayward was a member of the first group of scientists to visit the home of the Dalai Lama in 1987.
"A fascinating portrait of the father of Tibetan Buddhism in the United States." Gelek Rinpoche.
"This beautifully written memoir really conveys what it was like to be intimately close to Rinpoche. This is a tender, candid, and altogether extraordinary book by an exceptional teacher." Reginald Ray.
"Hayward chronicles his mounting appreciation for this charmingly bold teacher, weaving engaging personal stories and sweeping perspectives on Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche's evolution. Hayward provides the missing link in previous accounts of Rinpoche, showing the centrality of his daring vision of enlightened society beyond mere Buddhism." Judith Simmer-Brown.
"Trungpa Rinpoche was a true trailblazer. Jeremy Hayward has done an invaluable service in introducing Rinpoche's life and teachings to the general public." Traleg Rinpoche. |
