This translation has been made from the most renowned of the Chinese versions, by Kumarajiva. However, it also includes translations of passages of the Sanskrit that are omitted from the Chinese versions or differ sharply from the Chinese.
Originally published in 1976, Hurvitz's monumental translation of the Lotus Sutra is the work scholars have preferred for decades and was hailed as an extraordinary and magnificent achievment.
