Synopsis: The root texts of the Longchen Nyingthig contain a text for Chod practice. The text is part of the root transmission of the Longchen Nyingthig dharma that Jigme Lingpa received as mind treasure (terma) from Longchenpa. The text is popularly known by its Tibetan name "khadro gayjang", or Sound of Dakini Laughter. It includes both an explanation of the practice and a liturgy for doing it. This book contains a fresh translation of the liturgy, one which is accurate yet maintains the rhythms and poetry of the Tibetan original.
The most popular commentary to the text, by Dza Patrul Rinpoche, has been included. It explains the details of all the visualizations involved in the practice and makes some very important comments about the right and wrong way to practice Chod. The work is further clarified with an extensive commentary by the author, Tony Duff, the first written by a qualified Western teacher. The book also includes an introduction that clarifies many points, a glossary, and many notes to ensure all details are fully explained, plus carefully edited editions of the Tibetan texts.
This particular practice of Chod is unusual because of being based in Nyingthig Dzogchen dharma, and the view and practice of Nyingthig Chod differs from the normal view and practice of Chod. This book will be invaluable to Chod practitioners, and for Dzogchen practitioners there are insights to be gained into Dzogchen practice just from reading the text and the explanations provided with it.
