Synopsis:
White metal mandala offering set made in Nepal, consisting of a circular base, three retaining rings and a lotus mounted finial. Diameter of base 15 cm.
Mandala sets are used to make a ritual offering of the entire wealth of the universe as an act of devotion, often as part of the preliminary practices of Buddhist tantra. The set is heaped with grains of rice to represent the 37 elements of Mount Meru and its environs imagined as a pure land and offered to the guru. |
