Synopsis: A biography of Sangharakshita, founder of the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order, written by one of his main students.
Born in London, Dennis Lingwood realised he was a Buddhist at the age of sixteen. Conscripted during the Second World War, army life took him to India where he stayed on to become a Buddhist monk. By the mid-fifties he was an increasingly active and forthright exponent of Buddhism, and had established a centre in Kalimpong.
As hippies flocked eastwards in the sixties, Sangharakshita returned to England and established the FWBO. This dynamic movement promotes a form of Buddhism for the Western world.
This book chronicles the principle events in the extraordinary life of Sangharakshita. |
