Translated into English for the first time, the prophecy of Chogyur Lingpa is cherished by the Kagyu lineage as as a sacred document indicating the qualities and activities of the Karmapas. It describes his vision of 21 incarnations of the Karmapa, the head of the Kagyu sect, and is beautifully illustrated here in full colour.
Chogyur Lingpa had his vision while visiting Karma monastery in Nangchen, Kham, and he dictated it in detail to the abbot, Karmay Khenchen Rinchen Tarjay, who painted a representation of the prophecy on silk. Disciples of Chogyur Lingpa then commited his oral description to writing. Photographs of this 19th century text, as well as the silk painting by Karmay Khenchen, accompany this translation.
