Synopsis:
An overall picture of the concept of mind and the teachings on perception and mental factors in Tibetan Buddhism. This important work describing in detail how the mind works and perceives objects is divided into two parts. The first part presents a primarily epistemological model of the mind based on the lo rig teachings and the Pramana, or Buddhist logic, literature of Dharmakirti. In part two the emphasis is given to the psychological model of the mind as presented in the Abhidharma literature.

"Firstly we need to understand exactly what kind of nature the mind itself has. Then we should precisely learn how different positive and negative mental elements arise from it and how they, in turn, condition the quality of our mental, vocal and physical actions. If we make such a study, it is certain that we shall achieve an unequalled capacity for establishing happiness and dispelling suffering." Geshe Rabten.

"This book is like a mirror which very clearly reflects our mental make-up with all its qualities and faults. Anyone open to this teaching can benefit from it immensely, learn the hidden secrets of their minds, and bring about a valid inner transformation." Gonsar Tulku.
