Synopsis:
Frawley looks at tantra in all its Hindu forms, both in a general way and focused on specific aspects of practice. He goes on to relate tantric yoga to the healing principles of ayurveda.
Part One examines the background of tantra relative to modern culture and the traditional Hindu view of tantra. Part Two presents one of the major teachings of tantra - the Dasha Mahavidya or Ten Wisdom Forms of the Goddess. All of the levels of the Goddess from her symbolic forms to her higher meditational approaches are sytematically explored. Part Three examines the tantric yogic practices specifically related to Ayurveda. It gives detailed information about the process of the development of the consciousness and the practices which help to facilitate it.
The appendix correlates Hindu and Buddhist tantric systems in one chapter, including a Sanskrit glossary.
