Poems of Early Buddhist Monks
A translation of the Theragatha, the poems, or verses, of the first Buddhist monks. Many of these verses are descriptions of the peace of nirvana. Some are of a general nature, others describe the attainment of peace and also give a statement of personal conditions and surroundings.
The Theragatha, along with the Therigatha - the poems of the Elder nuns - are included in the Khuddaka Nikaya, the fifth part of the second "basket" of scriptures from the Pali Canon, the sutta pitaka.
